Barbour County is a United States county located in the United States of Alabama. As of 2000 the population was 29038. As of July 2008, the population was estimated at 29309, It is the 39th most populous county in the U.S. state of Alabama. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 904.52 sq mi (2342.7 kmē), of which, 884.9 square miles (2291.88 kmē) of it is land and 19.61 square miles (50.79 kmē) of it is water, giving it the 16th largest by total area among Alabama's county.

In the county the population is diverse age-wise, with 25.4% under the age of 18, 9.3% from 18 to 24, 29.6% from 25 to 44, 22.4% from 45 to 64, and 13.3% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 106.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 106.8 males. Its population was estimated at 29309 in July 2008, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 51.53% White, 46.84% Black or African American, 0.5% American Indian, 0.3% Asian, 0.03% Native Hawaiian, and 0.8% from two or more races.
