Baraga County is a county located in the United States of Michigan. According to the latest population census dating back to 2000, the Baraga County is home to 8746 inhabitants. As of July 2008, the estimated population was 8528, It is fifth least populous county in Michigan. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 1068.85 square miles (2768.31 kmē), of which, 904 square miles (2341.35 kmē) of it is land and 164.85 square miles (426.96 kmē) of it is water, making it Michigan's 30th largest county by total area.

As of the census of 2000, there were 8746 people in the county, organized into 3353 households, and 2223 families residing in the county. The population density was 9.7 people per square mile (3.75/kmē), making it the fifth least densely populated county in Michigan. There were 4631 housing units at an average density of 5.1 per square mile (1.97/kmē). It has an average household size was 2.37 persons, and the average family size was 2.93 persons. In the county the population is diverse age-wise, with 22.9% under the age of 18, 7.3% from 18 to 24, 28.4% from 25 to 44, 25.1% from 45 to 64, and 16.3% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 111 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 114.3 males. Its population was estimated at 8528 in July 2008, The racial makeup of the county was 6433 White, 654 Black or African American, 1088 American Indian, 25 Asian, 1 Native Hawaiian, and 327 from two or more races.
