Banner Elk Town is a town located in Avery County, North Carolina, in the Southern Region (South Atlantic) of United States. The population of the town was 811 as per the 2000 census data. Its population was estimated at 900 in July 2008, giving it the 426th largest population among North Carolina. It has total area of 1.19 square miles (3.08 kmē), it is the 167th smallest by area in the U.S. state of North Carolina.

As of the census of 2000, there were 811 people, 215 households, and 124 families residing in the town.
