Baldwin County is one of the 159 county of Georgia, located towards the Southern Region (South Atlantic) of United States. As per the 2000 census, county has a population of 44700 inhabitants. In July 2008, its estimated population was 46716, making it the 43rd most populous county in Georgia. The county extends throughout a territory of 267.5 square miles (692.82 square kilometre ), of which, 258.45 square miles (669.38 square kilometre) of it is land and 9.05 square miles (23.44 square kilometre) of it is water, it is the 45th smallest by area in the U.S. state of Georgia.

The population density was 173 people per square mile (66.8/kmē), it would be the 32nd most densely populated county in the U.S. state of Georgia. There were 17173 housing units at an average density of 66.4 per square mile (25.64/kmē). The average household size was 2.5 and the average family size was 3.02. In the county Age distribution was 21.7% under the age of 18, 14.5% from 18 to 24, 31.2% from 25 to 44, 21.9% from 45 to 64, and 10.6% who were 65 or older. For every 100 males there were 85.2 females. For every 100 males age 18 and over, there were 83.5 females. The July 2008 population estimate is 46716, The racial makeup of the county was 54.94% White, 42.91% Black or African American, 0.24% American Indian, 1.17% Asian, 0.01% Native Hawaiian, and 0.73% from two or more races.
