Baldwin County is one of the 67 county of Alabama, located towards the Southern Region (East South Central) of United States. The county has a population of 140415 as per the 2000 census data. Its population in July 2008 was estimated to be about 174439, It is the seventh largest county by population in the U.S. state of Alabama. It is spread over 2026.93 square miles (5249.72 kmē), of which, 1596.35 square miles (4134.53 kmē ) of it is land and 430.58 square miles (1115.2 kmē) of it is water, it is the largest by area in the U.S. state of Alabama. It is ranks first in the size of its inland waterways in Alabama.

As of the census of 2000, there were 140415 residents, 55336 households, and 40260 families in the county. The population density was 88 people per square mile (33.98/kmē), it is 21st most densely populated county in Alabama. There were 74285 housing units at an average density of 46.5 per square mile (17.95/kmē). It has an average household size was 2.5 persons, and the average family size was 2.94 persons. In the county the population was spread out, with 24.4% under the age of 18, 7.5% from 18 to 24, 27.7% from 25 to 44, 24.9% from 45 to 64, and 15.5% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 96.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 93.2 males. It has an estimated population (as of July 2008) of 174439, The racial makeup of the county was 87.83% White, 10.05% Black or African American, 0.51% American Indian, 0.55% Asian, 0.02% Native Hawaiian, and 1.04% from two or more races.
