Bailey County is a United States county located in the United States of Texas. As of 2000 the population was 6594. As of July 2008, the estimated population of the county is 6279, It is the 65th smallest in terms of population. The county encompasses an area of 827.38 sq mi (2142.9 kmē ), of which, 826.69 square miles (2141.12 kmē) of it is land and 0.68 square miles (1.76 kmē) of it is water, it is the 57th smallest in terms of geographical size.


As of the census of 2000, there were 6594 people in the county, organized into 2348 households, and 1778 families residing in the county. The population density was 8 people per square mile (3.09/kmē), it is the 73rd least densely populated county in the U.S. state of Texas. There were 2738 housing units at an average density of 3.3 per square mile (1.27/kmē). The average household size was 2.78 people, and the average family size was 3.28 people. In the county Age distribution was 30.3% under the age of 18, 8.6% from 18 to 24, 24.7% from 25 to 44, 21.2% from 45 to 64, and 15.2% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 96 males.
