Baca County is a one of the county from Colorado's 63 counties, located in Western Region (Mountain) of United States. The county has a population of 4517 as per the 2000 census data. According to July 2008 Census Bureau estimates, the population of the county is 3834, It is the ninth least populous county in the U.S. state of Colorado. The county extends throughout a territory of 2557.09 sq mi (6622.83 square kilometre ), of which, 2555.72 square miles (6619.28 square kilometre) of it is land and 1.37 square miles (3.55 square kilometre) of it is water, it is the 11th largest by area in the U.S. state of Colorado.

As of the census of 2000, there were 4517 residents, 1905 households, and 1269 families in the county. The population density was 1.8 people per square mile (0.69/kmē), it is the eighth least populated county in terms of population density. There were 2364 housing units at an average density of 0.9 per square mile (0.35/kmē). It has an average household size was 2.33 persons, and the average family size was 2.9 persons. In the Baca County, 24.5% of the population was under the age of 18, 5.9% were 18 to 24, 22.7% were 25 to 44, 24.5% were 45 to 64, and 22.4% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 99 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 95.5 males. As of July 2008, the population was estimated at 3834, The racial makeup of the county was 3688 White, 2 Black or African American, 57 American Indian, 10 Asian, 4 Native Hawaiian, and 73 from two or more races.
