Aztec City is a city located in San Juan County, New Mexico, in the Western Region (Mountain) of United States. The population of city in 2000 stood at 6378 as per the Census data. As of July 2008, the estimated population of the city is 6927, It is the 35th largest in terms of population. It covers total area of 9.8 square miles (25.38 sq km), of which, 9.73 square miles (25.2 sq km) of it is land and 0.08 square miles (0.21 sq km) of it is water, giving it the 53rd largest by total area among New Mexico.

As of the census of 2000, there were 6378 people, 457 households, and 284 families residing in the city. The population density was 655.7 people per square mile (253.17/kmē), giving it the 71st most densely populated city among the New Mexico. There were 2545 housing units at an average density of 261.6 per square mile (101/kmē). The average household size was 2.51 people, and the average family size was 3.06 people. In the Aztec City, 26.6% of the population was under the age of 18, 10.7% were 18 to 24, 29.5% were 25 to 44, 20.2% were 45 to 64, and 13% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 104.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 101.1 males. The median age is 34 years, The median age of males was 31.8 years, for females the median age was 36.9 years. The racial makeup of the city was 79.23% White, 0.38% Black or African American, 9.31% American Indian, 0.14% Asian, 0.13% Native Hawaiian, 3.29% from two or more races and 7.53% Other races.
