Atoka County is a one of the county from Oklahoma's 77 counties, located in Southern Region (West South Central) of United States. The county has a population of 13879 as per the 2000 census data. As of July 2008, the estimated population of the county is 14655, giving it the 47th largest population among Oklahoma's county. It covers total area of 990 sq mi (2564.09 square kilometre), of which, 978.29 square miles (2533.76 square kilometre) of it is land and 11.71 square miles (30.33 square kilometre) of it is water, it is the 23rd largest in terms of geographical size.

The population density was 14.2 people per square mile (5.48/kmē), it is the 22nd least densely populated county in the U.S. state of Oklahoma. There were 5673 housing units at an average density of 5.8 per square mile (2.24/kmē). The average household size was 2.48 persons, and the average family size was 3.01 persons. The population's age distribution was 23.6% under the age of 18, 8.2% from 18 to 24, 29.1% from 25 to 44, 24.3% from 45 to 64, and 14.8% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 117.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 119.9 males. The July 2008 population estimate is 14655, The racial makeup of the county was 75.86% White, 5.95% Black or African American, 11.87% American Indian, 0.26% Asian, 0.01% Native Hawaiian, and 6.05% from two or more races.
