Atkinson County, Georgia is a county located in the Southern Region (South Atlantic) of United States. In 2000, county's population was 7609 inhabitants. In July 2008, its estimated population was 8181, It is 20th least populous county in Georgia. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 344.1 miē (891.21 kmē), of which, 338.04 square miles (875.52 kmē) of it is land and 6.05 square miles (15.67 kmē) of it is water, making it Georgia's 82nd largest county by total area.


As of the census of 2000, there were 7609 people in the county, organized into 2717 households, and 1981 families living in the county. The population density was 22.5 people per square mile (8.69/kmē), making its Georgia's 17th least densely populated county. There were 3171 housing units at an average density of 9.4 per square mile (3.63/kmē). It has an average household size was 2.78 persons, and the average family size was 3.27 persons. In the county Population was distributed with 30.3% under the age of 18, 10.9% from 18 to 24, 29.6% from 25 to 44, 19.9% from 45 to 64, and 9.3% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 98 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 97.4 males.
