In July 2008, its estimated population was 8181, It is 20th least populous county in Georgia. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 344.1 miē (891.21 kmē), of which, 338.04 square miles (875.52 kmē) of it is land and 6.05 square miles (15.67 kmē) of it is water, making it Georgia's 82nd largest county by total area.
