Atherton Town is a town in the San Mateo County, California, United States. The population of town in 2000 stood at 7194 as per the Census data. As of July 2008, the estimated population of the town is 7406, giving it the 518th largest population among California. The town encompasses an area of 4.93 sq mi (12.77 square kilometre ), of which, 4.9 square miles (12.69 square kilometre) of it is land and 0.03 square miles (0.08 square kilometre) of it is water, it is the 542nd largest by area in the U.S. state of California.
