Athens County is a United States county located in the United States of Ohio. The population of the county was 62223 as per the 2000 census data. As of July 2008, the estimated population was 63255, It is Ohio's 39th most populous county. The county spans an area of 508.54 sq mi (1317.11 kmē), of which, 506.76 square miles (1312.5 kmē) of it is land and 1.78 square miles (4.61 kmē) of it is water, it is the 30th largest by area in the U.S. state of Ohio.
