Athens City is a one of the Menard County, Illinois, located in Midwestern Region (East North Central) of United States. According to the latest population census dating back to 2000, the Athens City is home to 1726 inhabitants. In July 2008, its estimated population was 1780, It is the 531st most populous in the U.S. state of Illinois. It covers total area of 1.47 mi˛ (3.81 sq km), it is the 551st largest by area in the U.S. state of Illinois.
