Atchison County is a one of the county from Missouri's 115 counties and independent city, located in Midwestern Region (West North Central) of United States. In 2000, county's population was 6430 inhabitants. The county's estimated population as of July 2008 was 6031, It is ninth least populous county in Missouri. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 547.36 square miles (1417.66 sq km), of which, 544.72 square miles (1410.82 sq km) of it is land and 2.64 square miles (6.84 sq km) of it is water, making it the 68th largest by size in Missouri.

For every 100 females there were 99.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 91.9 males. Its population in July 2008 was estimated to be about 6031, The racial makeup of the county was 5843 White, 134 Black or African American, 16 American Indian, 16 Asian, 0 Native Hawaiian, and 22 from two or more races.
