According to July 2008 Census Bureau estimates, the population of the county is 43877, It is the 70th largest in terms of population. It is spread over 1235.61 miē (3200.22 kmē), of which, 1232.12 square miles (3191.18 kmē ) of it is land and 3.49 square miles (9.04 kmē) of it is water, it is the 41st largest by area in the U.S. state of Texas.
