Ashley County is one of the 75 county of Arkansas, located towards the Southern Region (West South Central) of United States. It is home to over 24209 people (2000 census). Its population in July 2008 was estimated to be about 22233, giving it the 33rd largest population among Arkansas's county. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 939.08 square miles (2432.21 square kilometre), of which, 921.15 square miles (2385.77 square kilometre) of it is land and 17.93 square miles (46.44 square kilometre) of it is water, giving it the sixth largest by total area among Arkansas's county.

In the county the population was spread out, with 26.8% under the age of 18, 8.3% from 18 to 24, 27.2% from 25 to 44, 23.9% from 45 to 64, and 13.8% who were 65 or older. For every 100 males there were 107.1 females. For every 100 males age 18 and over, there were 110.4 females. The July 2008 population estimate is 22233, The racial makeup of the county was 15895 White, 6036 Black or African American, 62 American Indian, 55 Asian, 11 Native Hawaiian, and 174 from two or more races.
