Ashland County is a county located in the United States of Ohio. In 2000, the population was 52523. It has an estimated population (as of July 2008) of 55125, making it the 46th most populous county in Ohio. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 426.85 mi˛ (1105.54 square kilometre), of which, 424.37 square miles (1099.11 square kilometre) of it is land and 2.47 square miles (6.4 square kilometre) of it is water, making it Ohio's 52nd largest county by total area.

The population density was 123.8 people per square mile (47.8/km˛), it is Ohio's 41st most densely populated county. There were 20832 housing units at an average density of 49.1 per square mile (18.96/km˛). The average household size was 2.58 people, and the average family size was 3.06 people. The population's age distribution was 25.7% under the age of 18, 10.8% from 18 to 24, 26.5% from 25 to 44, 23% from 45 to 64, and 13.9% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 96.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 92.4 males.
