As of July 2008, the estimated population of the city is 74543, It is tenth most populous in North Carolina. The city comprises an area of 41.31 sq mi (106.99 square kilometre), of which, 40.92 square miles (105.98 square kilometre) of it is land and 0.39 square miles (1.01 square kilometre) of it is water, it is the 13th largest in terms of geographical size.
