Ashe County is a county located in the United States of North Carolina. In 2000, county's population was 24384 inhabitants. As of July 2008, the population was estimated at 25702, It is the 28th smallest county by population in the U.S. state of North Carolina. Its area is just over 426.78 sq mi (1105.36 sq km), of which, 426.13 square miles (1103.67 sq km) of it is land and 0.65 square miles (1.68 sq km) of it is water, makes it the 63rd largest by total area in North Carolina.

For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 94.9 males. Its population in July 2008 was estimated to be about 25702, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 98% White, 0.93% Black or African American, 0.37% American Indian, 0.22% Asian, 0.01% Native Hawaiian, and 0.47% from two or more races.
