Ascension Parish is one of the 64 parish of Louisiana, located towards the Southern Region (West South Central) of United States. The population of parish in 2000 stood at 76627 as per the Census data. It has an estimated population (as of July 2008) of 101789, making it the 14th most populous parish in Louisiana. The parish extends throughout a territory of 302.88 mi˛ (784.46 sq km ), of which, 291.53 square miles (755.06 sq km) of it is land and 11.35 square miles (29.4 sq km) of it is water, making it Louisiana's fourth smallest parish by total area.

As of the census of 2000, there were 76627 people in the parish, organized into 26691 households, and 20789 families living in the parish. The population density was 262.8 people per square mile (101.47/km˛), it would be the sixth most densely populated parish in the U.S. state of Louisiana. There were 29172 housing units at an average density of 100.1 per square mile (38.65/km˛). It has an average household size was 2.85 persons, and the average family size was 3.25 persons. In the parish Population was distributed with 30.1% under the age of 18, 9.5% from 18 to 24, 32.6% from 25 to 44, 20.2% from 45 to 64, and 7.7% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 96.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 93.5 males. Its population was estimated at 101789 in July 2008, The racial makeup of the parish was 76.63% White, 21.58% Black or African American, 0.29% American Indian, 0.85% Asian, 0.02% Native Hawaiian, and 0.63% from two or more races.
