Artesia City, New Mexico is a city of the Eddy County, New Mexico, United States. According to the 2000 census it had a population of 10692 inhabitants. In July 2008, its estimated population was 10994, giving it the 19th largest population among New Mexico. The city comprises an area of 7.98 sq mi (20.67 square kilometre), of which, 7.97 square miles (20.64 square kilometre) of it is land and 0.01 square miles (0.03 square kilometre) of it is water, making it the 64th largest by size in New Mexico.

According to 2000 Census Bureau, there were 10692 residents, 457 households, and 284 families in the city. The population density was 1341.3 people per square mile (517.88/kmē), making its New Mexico's 26th most densely populated city. There were 4593 housing units at an average density of 576.3 per square mile (222.51/kmē). The average household size was 2.61 and the average family size was 3.15. In the city the population was spread out, with 30.3% under the age of 18, 9% from 18 to 24, 25.5% from 25 to 44, 20.1% from 45 to 64, and 15.1% who were 65 or older. For every 100 males there were 108.7 females. For every 100 males age 18 and over, there were 114.1 females. The median age of the city's population was 35.1 years, the median age of male residents at 33.7 and the median age of female residents at 36.3. The racial makeup of the city was 72.25% White, 1.44% Black or African American, 1.54% American Indian, 0.2% Asian, 0.15% Native Hawaiian, 2.86% from two or more races and 21.56% Other races.
