Arkansas County is a county in the United States of Arkansas. It is home to over 20749 people (2000 census). The July 2008 population estimate is 19236, It is the 38th most populous county in the U.S. state of Arkansas. Its area is just over 1033.79 sq mi (2677.5 square kilometre), of which, 988.49 square miles (2560.18 square kilometre) of it is land and 45.3 square miles (117.33 square kilometre) of it is water, making it Arkansas's third largest county by total area. It is ranks fourth in the size of its inland waterways in Arkansas.

The population density was 21 people per square mile (8.11/kmē), it is the 21st least populated county in terms of population density. The population's age distribution was 24.8% under the age of 18, 8.3% from 18 to 24, 26.3% from 25 to 44, 24.4% from 45 to 64, and 16.2% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 90.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 86 males. It has an estimated population (as of July 2008) of 19236, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 73.54% White, 24.9% Black or African American, 0.24% American Indian, 0.41% Asian, 0.01% Native Hawaiian, and 0.9% from two or more races.
