Arenac County is a county located in the United States of Michigan. According to the 2000 census it had a population of 17269 inhabitants. Its population in July 2008 was estimated to be about 16361, giving it the 17th smallest population among Michigan's county. Its area is just over 680.81 mi˛ (1763.29 square kilometre), of which, 366.84 square miles (950.11 square kilometre) of it is land and 313.97 square miles (813.18 square kilometre) of it is water, making it the 46th largest by size in Michigan.

The population density was 47.1 people per square mile (18.19/km˛), it would be the 53rd most densely populated county in the U.S. state of Michigan. There were 9563 housing units at an average density of 26.1 per square mile (10.08/km˛). It has an average household size was 2.45 persons, and the average family size was 2.92 persons. In the county the population was spread out, with 23.3% under the age of 18, 7.8% from 18 to 24, 26.8% from 25 to 44, 25.5% from 45 to 64, and 16.6% who were 65 or older. For every 100 males there were 94.8 females. For every 100 males age 18 and over, there were 95.8 females. In July 2008, its estimated population was 16361, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 15457 White, 418 Black or African American, 182 American Indian, 54 Asian, 2 Native Hawaiian, and 248 from two or more races.
