Archuleta County is a county located in Colorado, in the Western Region (Mountain) of United States. Archuleta County had an official population of 9898 in 2000. Its population was estimated at 12648 in July 2008, It is the 36th largest in terms of population. Its area is just over 1355.48 mi˛ (3510.68 sq km), of which, 1350.22 square miles (3497.05 sq km) of it is land and 5.26 square miles (13.62 sq km) of it is water, makes it the 33rd largest by total area in Colorado.

As of the census of 2000, there were 9898 people, 3980 households, and 2872 families living in the county. The population density was 7.3 people per square mile (2.82/km˛), it is 34th most densely populated county in Colorado. There were 6212 housing units at an average density of 4.6 per square mile (1.78/km˛). The average household size was 2.47 and the average family size was 2.89. In the county Age distribution was 25.3% under the age of 18, 6.3% from 18 to 24, 26.1% from 25 to 44, 30.4% from 45 to 64, and 11.9% who were 65 or older. For every 100 males there were 97.3 females. For every 100 males age 18 and over, there were 100.5 females. The county's estimated population as of July 2008 was 12648, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 96.18% White, 0.47% Black or African American, 1.64% American Indian, 0.35% Asian, 0.02% Native Hawaiian, and 1.33% from two or more races.
