The population of the city was 9014 as per the 2000 census data. The city's estimated population as of July 2008 was 9332, It is the 76th largest by population in the U.S. state of North Carolina. The city encompasses an area of 7.83 miē (20.28 kmē), making it North Carolina's 104th largest by total area.
