Arcata City is a United States city located in the Humboldt County, California, United States. Arcata City had an official population of 16651 in 2000. The city's estimated population as of July 2008 was 17044, making it the 334th most populous in California. Its area is just over 11.04 miē (28.59 kmē), of which, 9.19 square miles (23.8 kmē) of it is land and 1.85 square miles (4.79 kmē) of it is water, giving it the 302nd largest by total area among California.
