Apache County is one of the 15 county of Arizona, located towards the Western Region (Mountain) of United States. As per the 2000 census, county has a population of 69423 inhabitants. In July 2008, its estimated population was 70207, making it the tenth most populous county in Arizona. It has total area of 11218.42 square miles (29055.57 square kilometre), of which, 11204.88 square miles (29020.51 square kilometre) of it is land and 13.54 square miles (35.07 square kilometre) of it is water, it is the third largest by area in the U.S. state of Arizona. It is ranks sixth in the size of its inland waterways in Arizona.

As of the census of 2000, there were 69423 people, 19971 households, and 15266 families living in the county. The population density was 6.2 people per square mile (2.39/kmē), it is the third least populated county in terms of population density. There were 31621 housing units at an average density of 2.8 per square mile (1.08/kmē). The average household size was 3.41 persons, and the average family size was 4.04 persons. The population's age distribution was 38.5% under the age of 18, 9.4% from 18 to 24, 25.1% from 25 to 44, 18.7% from 45 to 64, and 8.3% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 98.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 94.5 males. Its population was estimated at 70207 in July 2008, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 23.78% White, 1.35% Black or African American, 73% American Indian, 0.53% Asian, 0.16% Native Hawaiian, and 1.18% from two or more races.
