Anson County is a county located in North Carolina, in the Southern Region (South Atlantic) of United States. Anson County had an official population of 25275 in 2000. It has an estimated population (as of July 2008) of 25162, making it North Carolina's 27th smallest county. The county has a total area of 537.13 square miles (1391.16 square kilometre), of which, 531.57 square miles (1376.76 square kilometre) of it is land and 5.56 square miles (14.4 square kilometre) of it is water, it is the 41st largest in terms of geographical size.

The population density was 47.5 people per square mile (18.34/kmē), making its North Carolina's 19th least densely populated county. There were 10221 housing units at an average density of 19.2 per square mile (7.41/kmē). The average household size was 2.59 persons, and the average family size was 3.09 persons. In the county the population is diverse age-wise, with 25.2% under the age of 18, 8.6% from 18 to 24, 29% from 25 to 44, 22.8% from 45 to 64, and 14.4% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 96.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 95.8 males. According to July 2008 Census Bureau estimates, the population of the county is 25162, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 12491 White, 12149 Black or African American, 144 American Indian, 217 Asian, 8 Native Hawaiian, and 153 from two or more races.
