It is the 16th largest by population in the U.S. state of Virginia. The census designated place spans an area of 13.81 sq mi (35.77 sq km), of which, 13.8 square miles (35.74 sq km) of it is land and 0.01 square miles (0.03 sq km) of it is water, it is the 39th largest by area in the U.S. state of Virginia.
