Amite County is a one of the county from Mississippi's 82 counties, located in Southern Region (East South Central) of United States. According to the latest population census dating back to 2000, the Amite County is home to 13599 inhabitants. The county's estimated population as of July 2008 was 13248, making it the 20th least populous county in Mississippi. The county spans an area of 731.64 mi˛ (1894.94 sq km), of which, 729.6 square miles (1889.66 sq km) of it is land and 2.04 square miles (5.28 sq km) of it is water, it is the 16th largest in terms of geographical size.
