Amherst Town is a one of the Amherst County, Virginia, located in Southern Region (South Atlantic) of United States. Amherst Town had an official population of 2251 in 2000. As of July 2008, the population was estimated at 2219, making it Virginia's 173rd largest. The town comprises an area of 4.99 square miles (12.92 square kilometre), making it Virginia's 137th largest by total area.
