Altoona City is one of the city of Eau Claire County, Wisconsin, located towards the Midwestern Region (East North Central) of United States. In 2000, the population was 6698. The July 2008 population estimate is 6753, making it the 108th most populous in Wisconsin. It is spread over 4.3 sq mi (11.14 kmē), of which, 4.09 square miles (10.59 kmē ) of it is land and 0.21 square miles (0.54 kmē) of it is water, it is the 150th largest in terms of geographical size.

As of the census of 2000, there were 6698 people in the city, organized into 76 households, and 48 families living in the city. The population density was 1638.6 people per square mile (632.67/kmē), it is the 110th most populated city in terms of population density. There were 3063 housing units at an average density of 748.9 per square mile (289.15/kmē). The average household size was 2.3 and the average family size was 2.92. The population's age distribution was 24.3% under the age of 18, 9.4% from 18 to 24, 29.4% from 25 to 44, 20.9% from 45 to 64, and 16% who were 65 or older. The racial or ethnic makeup of the city was 95.89% White, 0.4% Black or African American, 0.58% American Indian, 1.15% Asian, 0.07% Native Hawaiian, 1.63% from two or more races and 0.27% Other races.
