Altoona City is a city located in Polk County, Iowa, in the Midwestern Region (West North Central) of United States. As of 2000 the population was 10345. According to July 2008 Census Bureau estimates, the population of the city is 13854, It is the 32nd most populous in the U.S. state of Iowa. It is spread over 7.1 mi˛ (18.39 square kilometre), makes it the 44th largest by total area in Iowa.

For every 100 females there were 91.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 85.9 males.
