Alton City is a city located in the Madison County, Illinois, United States. According to the latest population census dating back to 2000, the Alton City is home to 30496 inhabitants. It has total area of 16.61 mi˛ (43.02 sq km), of which, 15.64 square miles (40.51 sq km) of it is land and 0.96 square miles (2.49 sq km) of it is water, it is the 27th largest by area in the U.S. state of Illinois. It is ranks 18 in the size of its inland waterways in Illinois.
