The county extends throughout a territory of 406.88 mi˛ (1053.81 square kilometre ), of which, 404.43 square miles (1047.47 square kilometre) of it is land and 2.46 square miles (6.37 square kilometre) of it is water, giving it the seventh smallest by total area among Ohio's county.

In the county Age distribution was 25.9% under the age of 18, 9.9% from 18 to 24, 27.6% from 25 to 44, 22.4% from 45 to 64, and 14.2% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 100 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 98 males.
