Allen County is one of the 120 county of Kentucky, located towards the Southern Region (East South Central) of United States. As of 2000 the population was 17800. As of July 2008, the estimated population was 19090, making it the 58th most populous county in Kentucky. It covers total area of 352.04 sq mi (911.78 sq km), of which, 346.12 square miles (896.45 sq km) of it is land and 5.92 square miles (15.33 sq km) of it is water, makes it the 47th largest by total area in Kentucky.

As of the census of 2000, there were 17800 people, 6910 households, and 5110 families living in the county. The population density was 51.4 people per square mile (19.85/kmē), it is Kentucky's 68th most densely populated county. There were 8057 housing units at an average density of 23.3 per square mile (9/kmē). The average household size was 2.55 and the average family size was 2.99. In the county Population was distributed with 25.8% under the age of 18, 8.9% from 18 to 24, 28.5% from 25 to 44, 23.1% from 45 to 64, and 13.7% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 95.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 93.3 males. According to July 2008 Census Bureau estimates, the population of the county is 19090, The racial makeup of the county was 97.68% White, 1.32% Black or African American, 0.17% American Indian, 0.13% Asian, 0.01% Native Hawaiian, and 0.7% from two or more races.
