Aleutians West Census Area, Alaska is a census area of the United States of Alaska. Aleutians West Census Area had an official population of 5465 in 2000. According to July 2008 Census Bureau estimates, the population of the census area is 4529, making it the eighth least populous census area in Alaska. It has total area of 14116.51 square miles (36561.59 sq km), of which, 4396.77 square miles (11387.58 sq km) of it is land and 9719.74 square miles (25174.01 sq km) of it is water, it is the 14th largest by area in the U.S. state of Alaska. It is ranks first in the size of its inland waterways in Alaska.


As of the census of 2000, there were 5465 people in the census area, organized into 1270 households, and 736 families residing in the census area. The population density was 1.2 people per square mile (0.46/kmē), it would be the tenth most densely populated census area in the U.S. state of Alaska. There were 2234 housing units at an average density of 0.5 per square mile (0.19/kmē). It has an average household size was 2.52 persons, and the average family size was 3.26 persons. The population's age distribution was 17.2% under the age of 18, 7.8% from 18 to 24, 47.6% from 25 to 44, 25.1% from 45 to 64, and 2.3% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 180 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 202.1 males. According to July 2008 Census Bureau estimates, the population of the census area is 4529, The racial makeup of the census area was 1946 White, 177 Black or African American, 979 American Indian, 1245 Asian, 31 Native Hawaiian, and 151 from two or more races.
