Albany County is a United States county located in the United States of New York. As per the 2000 census, county has a population of 294565 inhabitants. In July 2008, its estimated population was 298130, making it the 14th most populous county in New York. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 533.21 sq mi (1381.01 kmē), of which, 523.45 square miles (1355.73 kmē) of it is land and 9.76 square miles (25.28 kmē) of it is water, making it New York's 42nd largest county by total area.

As of the census of 2000, there were 294565 people in the county, organized into 120512 households, and 70973 families residing in the county. The population density was 562.7 people per square mile (217.26/kmē), making it the 14th most densely populated county in New York. There were 129972 housing units at an average density of 248.3 per square mile (95.87/kmē). The average household size was 2.32 people, and the average family size was 2.99 people. In the county the population is diverse age-wise, with 22.6% under the age of 18, 11.3% from 18 to 24, 28.8% from 25 to 44, 22.8% from 45 to 64, and 14.5% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 91.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 87.8 males. It has an estimated population (as of July 2008) of 298130, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 81.82% White, 12.26% Black or African American, 0.27% American Indian, 3.96% Asian, 0.04% Native Hawaiian, and 1.64% from two or more races.
