Alamosa County is a county located in Colorado, in the Western Region (Mountain) of United States. In 2000, the population was 14966. It has an estimated population (as of July 2008) of 15417, It is the 31st largest in terms of population. It has total area of 723.53 miē (1873.93 kmē), of which, 722.74 square miles (1871.89 kmē) of it is land and 0.78 square miles (2.02 kmē) of it is water, giving it the 11th smallest by total area among Colorado's county.

As of the census of 2000, there were 14966 people in the county, organized into 5467 households, and 3654 families living in the county. The population density was 20.7 people per square mile (7.99/kmē), it is Colorado's 21st most densely populated county. There were 6088 housing units at an average density of 8.4 per square mile (3.24/kmē). The average household size was 2.56 persons, and the average family size was 3.14 persons. In the county the population was distributed as follows: 27.2% under the age of 18, 15.9% from 18 to 24, 26.7% from 25 to 44, 20.6% from 45 to 64, and 9.6% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 99 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 95.3 males. As of July 2008, the population was estimated at 15417, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 14105 White, 253 Black or African American, 531 American Indian, 182 Asian, 34 Native Hawaiian, and 312 from two or more races.
