Alameda County is a county in the United States of California. The population of county in 2000 stood at 1443741 as per the Census data. The county's estimated population as of July 2008 was 1474368, giving it the seventh largest population among California's county. It covers total area of 821.15 square miles (2126.77 kmē), of which, 737.57 square miles (1910.3 kmē) of it is land and 83.57 square miles (216.45 kmē) of it is water, making it California's tenth smallest county by total area.


As of the census of 2000, there were 1443741 people, 523366 households, and 339096 families residing in the county. The population density was 1957.4 people per square mile (755.76/kmē), making it the fourth most densely populated county in California. There were 540183 housing units at an average density of 732.4 per square mile (282.78/kmē). The average household size was 2.71 persons, and the average family size was 3.31 persons. In the county Age distribution was 24.6% under the age of 18, 9.6% from 18 to 24, 33.9% from 25 to 44, 21.7% from 45 to 64, and 10.2% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 96.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 94 males. As of July 2008, the estimated population was 1474368, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 56.35% White, 13.49% Black or African American, 0.74% American Indian, 24.86% Asian, 0.8% Native Hawaiian, and 3.76% from two or more races.
