Alamance County is a county located in the United States of North Carolina. In 2000, the population was 130800. As of July 2008, the estimated population of the county is 148053, making it the 18th most populous county in North Carolina. It is spread over 434.77 sq mi (1126.05 sq km), of which, 429.99 square miles (1113.67 sq km ) of it is land and 4.78 square miles (12.38 sq km) of it is water, giving it the 61st largest by total area among North Carolina's county.

As of the census of 2000, there were 130800 people, 51584 households, and 35526 families living in the county. The population density was 304.2 people per square mile (117.45/kmē), it is North Carolina's 12th most densely populated county. There were 55463 housing units at an average density of 129 per square mile (49.81/kmē). It has an average household size was 2.46 persons, and the average family size was 2.95 persons. In the county the population was distributed as follows: 23.8% under the age of 18, 9.9% from 18 to 24, 29.9% from 25 to 44, 22.3% from 45 to 64, and 14.1% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 92.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 89 males. According to July 2008 Census Bureau estimates, the population of the county is 148053, The racial makeup of the county was 116201 White, 27727 Black or African American, 761 American Indian, 1836 Asian, 66 Native Hawaiian, and 1462 from two or more races.
