Alachua City, Alachua County, Florida is a city located in the Southern Region (South Atlantic) of United States. The population of the city was 6098 as per the 2000 census data. In July 2008, its estimated population was 9306, It is the 371st most populous in the U.S. state of Florida. The city spans an area of 29.05 square miles (75.24 kmē), of which, 28.9 square miles (74.85 kmē) of it is land and 0.15 square miles (0.39 kmē) of it is water, it is the 48th largest by area in the U.S. state of Florida.

As of the census of 2000, there were 6098 people in the city, organized into 2348 households, and 1752 families living in the city. The population density was 211 people per square mile (81.47/kmē), it is the 57th least populated city in terms of population density. There were 2501 housing units at an average density of 86.5 per square mile (33.4/kmē). The average household size was 2.59 and the average family size was 2.97. In the city the population is diverse age-wise, with 27.8% under the age of 18, 7.8% from 18 to 24, 26.9% from 25 to 44, 25.8% from 45 to 64, and 11.7% who were 65 or older.
