Agawam City is a city located in Hampden County, Massachusetts, in the Northeastern Region (New England) of United States. According to the 2000 census it had a population of 28144 inhabitants. As of July 2008, the estimated population was 28091, It is 49th most populous in Massachusetts. The city encompasses an area of 24.23 square miles (62.76 sq km ), of which, 23.24 square miles (60.19 sq km) of it is land and 0.99 square miles (2.56 sq km) of it is water, it is the 19th largest by area in the U.S. state of Massachusetts.

As of the census of 2000, there were 28144 people, 11260 households, and 7462 families living in the city. The population density was 1210.9 people per square mile (467.53/kmē), making it the 136th most densely populated city in Massachusetts.
