In July 2008, its estimated population was 430836, It is the fifth largest county by population in the U.S. state of Colorado. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 1197.71 square miles (3102.05 square kilometre), of which, 1191.93 square miles (3087.08 square kilometre) of it is land and 5.78 square miles (14.97 square kilometre) of it is water, making it the 39th largest by size in Colorado.
