Adair County is one of the 77 county of Oklahoma, located towards the Southern Region (West South Central) of United States. As of 2000 the population was 21038. Its population in July 2008 was estimated to be about 21811, giving it the 38th largest population among Oklahoma's county. It covers total area of 577.03 mi˛ (1494.5 square kilometre), of which, 575.67 square miles (1490.98 square kilometre) of it is land and 1.36 square miles (3.52 square kilometre) of it is water, it is the ninth smallest by area in the U.S. state of Oklahoma.

The population density was 36.5 people per square mile (14.09/km˛), making its Oklahoma's 29th most densely populated county. There were 8348 housing units at an average density of 14.5 per square mile (5.6/km˛). It has an average household size was 2.76 persons, and the average family size was 3.25 persons. In the county Population was distributed with 30.3% under the age of 18, 8.9% from 18 to 24, 27.2% from 25 to 44, 21.6% from 45 to 64, and 12% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 97.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 94.4 males. As of July 2008, the estimated population of the county is 21811, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 10717 White, 140 Black or African American, 9226 American Indian, 81 Asian, 5 Native Hawaiian, and 1642 from two or more races.
