Adair County is a county in the United States of Missouri. As of 2000 the population was 24977. As of July 2008, the estimated population was 24943, It is Missouri's 44th most populous county. The county spans an area of 569.32 square miles (1474.53 kmē), of which, 567 square miles (1468.52 kmē) of it is land and 2.31 square miles (5.98 kmē) of it is water, making it the 63rd largest by size in Missouri.


As of the census of 2000, there were 24977 people in the county, organized into 9669 households, and 5343 families living in the county. The population density was 44.1 people per square mile (17.03/kmē), making it the 38th most densely populated county in Missouri. There were 10826 housing units at an average density of 19.1 per square mile (7.37/kmē). It has an average household size was 2.29 persons, and the average family size was 2.9 persons. The population's age distribution was 19.2% under the age of 18, 27.4% from 18 to 24, 22.8% from 25 to 44, 18.4% from 45 to 64, and 12.3% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 88.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 84.5 males. In July 2008, its estimated population was 24943, The racial makeup of the county was 95.23% White, 1.48% Black or African American, 0.35% American Indian, 1.91% Asian, 0.05% Native Hawaiian, and 0.97% from two or more races.
