Adair City is a city in the Adair and Guthrie counties, Iowa, United States. As per the 2000 census, city has a population of 839 inhabitants. The July 2008 population estimate is 713, making it the 331st most populous in Iowa. The city has a total area of 2.22 mi˛ (5.75 square kilometre), of which, 2.2 square miles (5.7 square kilometre) of it is land and 0.02 square miles (0.05 square kilometre) of it is water, it is the 167th largest in terms of geographical size.

As of the census of 2000, there were 839 people in the city, organized into 366 households, and 214 families living in the city. The population density was 381.1 people per square mile (147.14/km˛), making it the 215th least densely populated city in Iowa.
